Renfrewshire Witch Hunt
We are a volunteer led organisation and our creative hub is based within The Paisley shopping centre, High Street, Paisley. We are open five days a week Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday between 10:00 and 16:00. We always welcome new volunteers.
Within the hub we have our research area which tells the story of the Witch Hunt in 1697. The unique history of the Renfrewshire Witch Hunt allows us to encompass a wide section of Paisley’s history - from medieval times to present day (right through the industrial revolution of the textile town, all of which feature the main protagonist of the Witch Trials, Christian Shaw, who accused the original 35 people). Our local historian Stephen Clancy is available to speak to on Mondays and Tuesday.
On Monday afternoons we have organised walking tours the tours rotate weekly between Paisley Canal, Paisley Witch Hunting sites and Paisley textile History with more to come. The walking tours leaves the shop at 13:30 walks are approximately one hour and 30 minutes. For more information please either call in to the hub or contact us.
Also in our hub we sell locally made craft goods, knitted, crochet goods, handmade jewellery, Paisley postcards, thumbsticks and much more; we also have a small selection of Scottish goods.
At present we hold crochet classes every second Friday for more information on booking a class please contact us. In the near future we hope to have a few more class running.
With the help of theatre groups, community group and of course our own member’s, we aim to have a yearly event in Paisley town centre. The previous two events that we have held have told the story of the witch trials.
